Presque aussi ancienne que la photographie elle-même, la commande documentaire est riche d’une longue histoire. En 2016, Sami Kanaan a souhaité créer une nouvelle enquête photographique genevoise consacrée, pendant trois ans, aux pratiques sportives et déclinée chaque année selon un angle différent. Elisa Larvego a mené ce premier mandat avec un regard sociétal. Cette table ronde interrogera les différents objectifs que poursuivent les enquêtes, marques du présent et archives pour l’avenir.

Almost as old as photography itself, the commissioning of documentary work has a long and rich history. In 2016, Sami Kanaan decided to create a new 3-year photographic survey in Geneva devoted to sports practices, approached each year from a different perspective. Elisa Larvego is taking a societal stance for the first of these mandates. This round table will examine the different objectives of the surveys, both traces of the present and archives for the future.

Par l’intensité de son travail, fait de plusieurs reportages par jour pendant vingt-cinq ans, Daniel Winteregg a constitué un patrimoine visuel irremplaçable sur la fin du XXe siècle et les premières années du XXIe. On le sait, Genève offre une situation favorable au photojournalisme grâce à sa vie internationale. Winteregg a pu documenter l’émancipation des femmes dans la vie politique suisse que symbolise l’élection d’une présidente de la Confédération comme l’avènement de mouvements sociaux inédits, la culture squat, le mouvement LGBT ou l’affirmation publique de la communauté musulmane.

Twenty-Five Years of Photojournalism in Geneva (1985-2009) Through his intense working practice, producing several reports a day for twenty-five years, Daniel Winteregg has built up a unique visual heritage spanning the late 20th and early 21st century. As we well know, Geneva is a favourable location for photojournalism because of its international dimension. Winteregg documented the empowerment of women in political life in Switzerland, symbolized by the election of a female president of the Swiss Confederation, the emergence of new social movements, the squat culture, the LGBT movement and the public affirmation of the Muslim community.
